How much money do you need?

How_much_do_you_needl-w160Most people cannot answer the question. They have no idea. Why is that? People who attempt to monitor their money flows usually rely on their Bank and Credit Card statements. But they only give us a photograph of the situation at a particular point in time.

These statements are produced primarily for the benefit of the Bank or Credit Card company. They certainly don't show us how much money we need to live.

The result is that some people don't have enough cash in their Bank Accounts and find themselves having to use credit or go overdrawn. Other people keep too much money in their current account in order to be on the safe side. This gives the Banks a very nice free buffer of money to make a very handsome return, and deprives the owner of the chance to do something better with it. As you no doubt know the Banks don't pass back to you more than a token fraction of the money they make.

There are other reasons why you need to know how much you need to have in your Bank account to live. You’re probably spending money on things you could do without and paying more for other things than you need.

When I was a child, my Dad was paid weekly in cash. It was split between rent, utilities, food and all the other necessities. We didn’t have phones, computers, a car, a credit card or even a bank account!

We had to live on the cash we got each week. If we saved a bit each month we could have a family holiday once a year to North Wales. Clothes were made for me. I always dreamed of having a bought dress!

I don’t suggest we regress our lifestyle to the old days but we need to get into the habit of budgeting, like the generations before. Credit has been the enemy of good money management. It is easy to get credit to solve immediate problems and then debts build up.

The Money Talks Planner is to help people understand where their money comes from and where it goes. It doesn’t matter how much income you have you should always know where it goes. The effort taken filling in the planner now will help you lots later!

Stay debt free with The Money Talks Planner

It’s a way to help you understand your personal financial position and to live within your income. The basics have all been set up and it’s easy to complete.

You’ll need bank and credit card statements to take the information from and put it into a format which shows your true financial situation. If you are not sure what it is telling you, you can send the form to us and we will help you interpret it.

The Tracker has two parts. The first part gives you an estimated monthly spend. You may notice a few changes you want to make immediately but we recommend you don’t make any big changes quickly. The second part enables you to track your actual expenditure each month. You can then monitor how much you spend each month and gradually bring it under tighter control.

There are no quick fixes but we know if you work with the planner for 3- 6 months you’ll feel more in control of your money and you will have more disposable income and less worry!

The Money Tracker comes with full instructions and you can contact us for help and support.

I have worked in the same industry all my working life.  A few years I found the last few career moves I made had resulted in me working for companies whose ethics or culture I did not agree with. The help and encouragement I received from Positive Input enabled me to make more judicious career moves and now to be in a much more rewarding and fulfilling work environment...See More
