We are what we eat!
There is a story about a flock of geese who lived by the seaside. Their owner found it more convenient to feed them on fish rather than grain.
They were apparently very fine and healthy geese. However when they were cooked they smelt of fish and when they were eaten they tasted of fish!
It is not just geese who do well on whatever food is conveniently available.
We do too, provided the food is ‘natural’. We can be both fit and healthy on a natural diet, which means eating food in its unadulterated form from Nature!
There used to be a wide acceptance, even within the orthodox medical profession, that certain foods have the ability to improve certain ailments.
“Let thy food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. Hippocrates 460 – 359 BC
Ironically this was said over 2,000 years ago by the same Hippocrates who gave Doctors their Hippocratic Oath. In the intervening years a sturdy base of experimental knowledge developed which showed that many cheap and commonly available foods had all sorts of curative and preventative benefits. This was known as ‘Natural Medicine’.
Sadly today these natural medicines are generally disregarded and rubbished by the modern medical profession, backed by the pharmaceutical industry.
However, it is important to realize the knowledge of Natural Medicine was evolved when the only food available was ‘natural’. This was before food processing and taste scientists existed.
These days our food is capable of being our poison. Processed carbohydrates (consumed often unknowingly) are dealing a heavy blow to our metabolism and hidden additives such as chemical sweeteners are slowly damaging our nervous systems.
The food industry is unfortunately driven by market forces and not by what our bodies need for well being. Supermarkets stock a bewildering array of convenience foods which swamp the natural produce our bodies so desperately need.
Next time you go food shopping, take the time to notice the ingredients label on packaged and processed foods. Many of the descriptions of ingredients are meaningless to ordinary people and require a chemist to interpret them! Have you ever wondered what “bread improver” is?
Would you like to be a discerning buyer of healthier foods, avoiding the poisons whilst giving your body closer to what it needs?
